Accelerating Inclusive Markets for Smallholders (AIMS) is a joint project of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), led by the Ministry of Commerce. This six years duration project (effective from 28 February 2017 with an expected completion date of 31 March 2023) is intended to accelerate the inclusive growth of markets and for higher value agricultural products and the development of associated local clusters through which poorer smallholder producers can benefit alongside others. Life Steps Organization (LSO) joint venture with the Action for Development (AFD), is one of service providing partners of the AIMS project to implement the assignment of “Market-Oriented Social Mobilizer” for Kampong Cham Regional Hub. A Kampong Cham Regional hub office is the largest hub among three regional hubs because it contains nine (9) Eastern and Northeastern provinces of the country. In order to easily manage, PMO has designed and identified 2 satellite provinces including Kratie and Preah Vihear provinces and other member provinces such as Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Tboung Khmum, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri provinces. We work for smallholder producers/ farmers mainly of four value chain commodities including vegetables, backyard chicken, quality assured rice and cassava. Planning of rapid mapping, provided Business Literacy, recruited Business Literacy Facilitator among the group of producers.
The third year of Social Mobilization services as per the agreement signed between AIMS project (MoC) and service provider AFD Jv LSO, passed through a productive but critical challenging, mainly the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic globally since February 2020. The SM team composed of 54 members under Kampong Cham hub, spreading over 9 different provinces could successfully form 233 new groups smallholder producers/farmers of with clear structures in the year 2021. A total of 8,610 HHs were identified, and their baseline data were collected and input into the project MIS. In addition, the data collection of rolling baseline and farmer diary (2018-2019) were accomplished 12,701 HHs out of targeted 20,010 households and recorded into the MIS.
Our SMs built a capacity of 503 BLF (business literacy facilitators) out of a target 429 BLF (117%) in order to roll out BLC training to farmers on the ground. Moreover, SM team had conducted ToT to 223 BLFs in 9 provinces including 72 women, 7 youths, and 37 indigenous. This training focused on 4 modules courses including 1) Group Management, 2) Business and Production Plans, 3) Sale and Marketing and 4) Financial Management. also trained them in Facilitation Skills. SM team had supported BLF to conduct BLT to 479 POs out of 546 POs in the annual work plan 2021.
In
2021, the SM team formed 233 new POs with the help of VCI, including 37
vegetable POs, 72 Chicken POs, 22 cassava POs, and 102 rice POs.
